Since 1st of December 2014, Nigerian businessman Tony Elumelu has been operating a $100m Pan-African entrepreneurship initiative he calls The Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme. By pan-African entrepreneurship initiative, he means that the programm will create 10,000 startups across Africa within the next 10 years that will generate significant employment and wealth. This program is a multi-year programme that empowers the next generation of African entrepreneurs by providing training, funding, and mentoring opportunities . Here are the words of Tony Elumelu:
I am determined to ensure that Africa’s next generation of entrepreneurs have the platform they need to turn their entrepreneurial aspirations into sustainable businesses that will drive economic growth and job creation across Africa.
The Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme is a tool for implementing this vision. The programme is open to young compelling businesses with strong market feasibility, clear financial models and run by capable teams.
Selection into the programme will be a thorough process with no quotas of any kind to simply identify the game changers in the continent. The programme will support selected Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurs through the 7 Pillars of TEEP, a framework that includes mentorship, online and live learning, as well as access to information, networking and seed capital.
